Farmer’s Mahler was not self-indulgent and he adhered to brisk tempi throughout all the movements. I like the First Symphony when I feel – as here – that I am on a rollercoaster in Vienna’s Prater and I can indulge myself in all its thrills, spills, excitement and intense drama...Edward Farmer was admirably able to coax refined, elegant, playing from all the wonderful young talent in front of him.

Edward Farmer, a gifted young musician, who began with a finely coherent account of Smetana’s ‘Vltava’, nicely paced and well-played

Robert Matthew-Walker, Classical Source

'conducting with a discriminating ear for orchestral sonority, Edward Farmer paced both the Liszt and Grieg skillfully'

Barry Millington, London Evening Standard

'I have worked with Edward Farmer as a conductor, repetiteur and composer, both at the Royal Opera House, and on freelance projects in London. He is an excellent and versatile musician and an efficient, yet easy-going colleague. I would have no hesitation in recommending him as a very promising young conductor and all-round musician who would be an asset in a wide range of opera houses and productions.'

John Lloyd Davies, Head of Opera Development at the Royal Opera House 2005-12

'In 2013 I invited Edward to work as assistant conductor with the Budapest Festival Orchestra for concerts in Budapest and on tour. He conducted the orchestra during rehearsals and made a great impression, conducting expressively and with great control. He is an intelligent musician with many interesting opinions and ideas about music. Edward is a very talented conductor.'

Iván Fischer, Music Director, Budapest Festival Orchestra

'Edward Farmer has proven his exceptional skills to direct an orchestra like the London Symphony Orchestra and his musical talent...On a technical level he was always in control, clear in gesture and rhythm being able to show much of his musical ideas in the first run-through. He is very pleasant to work with as he showed respect and good manners to the orchestra. His musicianship and experience in conducting is already at a very high level, and I can strongly recommend him.'

Jörg Hammann, First Violin, London Symphony Orchestra

Playing together with Edward Farmer is for those who look for the way the specific music articulates, how its elements are connected and finally how they can create the unity that the composer lived before writing it. This is, in my opinion, a great gift which can only bring people, both performer and listener, closer together in the musical experience.

Vlad Stanculeasa, Principal First Violin, Göteborg Symphony Orchestra

'Ed Farmer came to work with me as a repetiteur. He revealed himself to be a very gifted young musician. He was able to help me get to grips with the complexities of this score and my music and secured my entrances in all of the ensembles being very clear in gesture and rhythm.'

Rosalind Plowright OBE, Opera Singer

'I have been conducted by Edward on numerous occasions and I am very impressed with his conducting. His dedication and very sensitive approach to music alongside strong leadership and tactful manners make him one the leaders of his generation. I always enjoy working with him, through every step from the very first conversation about a conception, followed by discussions about tempi and articulation. He never compromises on the energy he gives during a concert - a rare ability in the modern world.'

Artem Kotov, First Violin, Moscow Soloists Chamber Orchestra

'Edward has a true talent as a conductor, enhanced by a communicative personality which inspires confidence to musicians and makes him a very positive character. He is also a creative and clever spirit, qualities which should enable him to fully express his genuine musical talent in the years to come.'

Pierre-Andre Valadé, Conductor

'very intelligent, charismatic, and displays strong leadership’

Leonid Grin, Conductor

'passion, drive, and commitment for making music. It is clear that his musicians have a great respect for him’

Anna-liisa Bezrodny, Violin Soloist
