Recent highlights include the beautiful family sequel The Railway Children Return [music by Edward Farmer & Martin Phipps] for Studiocanal, dir. Morgan Matthews, end-of-the-world sci-fi Beyond Existence dir. Schuman Hoque, brutal Scottish thriller Kingdom Come which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, fast paced docu-drama Countdown to Abdication for BBC Studios/BBC Select, and recreating the sound of Louis Armstrong and the Harlem Smalls Club for Todd Komarnicki 's second world war drama Bonhoeffer.
As an arranger, orchestrator, conductor and additional music composer, Ed has worked on titles including: The Crown (Season 3-5) [Netflix], , Bridgerton (Season 1 & 3) [Netflix], Trial of the Chicago Seven [Dreamworks], Birds of Prey [Warner Bros], Julia for Julie Cohen and Betsy West, he wrote two arrangements on Decca’s ‘Bond 25’ album, celebrating the release of the 25th Bond Film, No Time To Die, recorded at Abbey Road with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
In the realm of factual television Ed has provided music for three seasons of Stacey Dooley's DNA Family Secrets [BBC/Minnow Films], collaborated with Latin-Piano giant Alex Wilson for an album of tracks for Race Across the World [BBC], and composed music for The World's Most Extraordinary Homes (BBC/Netflix), and The Great Escapists [Amazon].
Ed grew up in Yorkshire, playing bass guitar & keyboards in nightclubs and bars. A scholarship to the Royal College of Music led to a focus on film music, and the opportunity to train as an orchestral conductor. After conducting orchestras including London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Budapest Festival Orchestra, and the Polish National Radio Symphony, he set up a small studio just outside London, where he produces and records music, and still occasionally plays his bass.
