Arranging & Record Producing
In demand as a music arranger and record producer, Ed has written and recorded numerous arrangements for film & television, for on-screen performances and sync. Balancing the often competing needs of historcial authenticity, musical quality, and the practicality of film production is a unique but enjoyable challenge. Experienced in classical music, pop. jazz, world music and electronic music, Ed is an experienced musical voice whose work crosses over into consultant, musical director, writer, and music department collaborator.
His arranging work includes all the opera scenes in Netflix's hit period drama, Bridgerton (S1-3), in which he also appeared on screen as conductor of the opera, Bridgerton spin-off Queen Charlotte. arrangements for Great Expetations (BBC), The Crown (Netflix), jazz arrangements for See How They Run (Searchlight), recreating the sound of Louis Armstrong and his Hot Five for Todd Komarnicki 's second world war drama Bonhoeffer (Angel Studios) and many others. Ed's arranging talents have been showcased on Decca's 'Bond 25' album, recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Abbey Road, and on his concert suite of Martin Phipps' music from The Crown, performed at the Krakow Film Festival.
Orchestration
As an orchestator, Ed is a trusted collaborator of many of the UK's top composers including Martin Phipps, Daniel Pemberton, Rachel Portman, The Flight (Joe Henson & Alexis Smith), Maurizio Malagnini and others. Working with a small team of diligent scribes, technical wizards, and musical afficionados, Ed turns around scores quickly, accurately, and with a great depth of musical knowledge, often also leading recording sessions as conductor.
